Auditions 2017-18 Orchestra Season

Mission Statement and Goals: To teach young people about music. To provide the opportunity for young instrumentalists to have the highest quality musical experience in an orchestral setting. To foster the discipline necessary to be successful in music, recognizing that this discipline is invaluable in life’s other pursuits. To instill a sense of value of the arts as an enrichment in every aspect of life.
Tuition is $300.00 for the 2017-18 season. Scholarships are available for students who demonstrate financial need. Please call the YOGC office for more information and to obtain scholarship applications. The deadline to apply for a financial aid scholarship is September 1, 2017, at 5P. YOGC parents will conduct a fundraiser to afford any travel and special events for the orchestra students.
Weekly Monday Night Rehearsals String Orchestra – 6P to 7:30P / Youth Orchestra – 7:30P to 9:30P Sectional and full ensemble rehearsals are held in CSU’s Schwob School of Music at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. 2017-18
Orchestra Season will include: The 2017-18 Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus season will include a Fall concert, Christmas concert, Pops concert and dinner, Maestro for a Moment concert, Summer String Camp, and much more! Guest artists include: Voices of the Valley, violinist Boris Abramov, and a mystery guest artist!
Audition Location and Requirements: Auditions will be held at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, located at 900 Broadway, at the corner of 9th Street and Broadway. Each audition is limited to 10 minutes. You should arrive early to warm up and tune. Practice rooms will be available. Auditions will be competitive and will dictate chair placement. The conductor reserves the right to re-audition instrument sections and rotate chair placement throughout the season. Former members of the YOGC are not guaranteed a position and must audition each year.
Submit completed application online or by mail along with the $10 registration fee. Download the audition requirements or call to request by mail. Prepare your solo and the required scales as detailed in the audition instructions to the best of your ability. Please call the YOGC office if you need to request a specific time on an audition day.
